  • 1/3 cup whole milk (room temperature)
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream (room temperature)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (for topping)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 2 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling by cooking diced apples with apple butter, sugar, water, lemon juice, cinnamon, and salt until slightly softened.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine bread flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. In another bowl, mix milk, cream, egg, and tangzhong; gradually add to dry ingredients and knead until smooth.
  3. Roll out dough into a rectangle; spread butter over it and layer with the warm apple filling. Roll tightly and cut into pieces.
  4. Place rolls in a baking dish to rise again before baking at 350°F for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
  5. For frosting, blend together butter and cream cheese; gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls.
