Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp tomato sauce or ketchup
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for searing)
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 8 oz button mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tsp water (slurry, for thickening)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, tomato sauce, egg, yellow mustard, vegetable oil, oregano, black pepper, and salt until just combined. Shape into four patties.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat and sear the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned.
- Add sliced onions and mushrooms to the skillet; sauté for about five minutes until softened.
- Pour in beef broth along with onion powder, garlic powder. Bring to a simmer and return the patties to the skillet.
- Create a slurry by mixing cornstarch and water; stir into the gravy to thicken for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper before serving hot.
