  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tsp molasses
  • 1 tsp red food coloring (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp Five Spice Powder
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp honey

Instructions

  1. Cut the beef shoulder into long strips, about 3 inches thick.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together all marinade ingredients until well combined.
  3. Generously rub the marinade over the beef strips in a large bowl. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  4. Preheat your oven or grill to 500°F.
  5. Arrange the marinated beef on a metal rack placed over a foil-lined baking sheet.
  6. Roast for 25 minutes, then carefully turn each strip and roast for another 10 minutes.
  7. Baste one side with reserved marinade mixed with honey, then roast for an additional 10 minutes.
  8. Turn and baste again before roasting for another five minutes until caramelized.
  9. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
