Ingredients
- 3 lbs boneless beef shoulder
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 2 tsp molasses
- 1 tsp red food coloring (optional)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp Five Spice Powder
- 1/2 tsp white pepper
- 1/2 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp honey
Instructions
- Cut the beef shoulder into long strips, about 3 inches thick.
- In a bowl, whisk together all marinade ingredients until well combined.
- Generously rub the marinade over the beef strips in a large bowl. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat your oven or grill to 500°F.
- Arrange the marinated beef on a metal rack placed over a foil-lined baking sheet.
- Roast for 25 minutes, then carefully turn each strip and roast for another 10 minutes.
- Baste one side with reserved marinade mixed with honey, then roast for an additional 10 minutes.
- Turn and baste again before roasting for another five minutes until caramelized.
- Allow to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
