Ingredients
- 1 medium green cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 15 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil for sautéing
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and blanch the leaves in boiling water for about 5 minutes until pliable.
- In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and sauté diced onion until soft. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Add ground beef or turkey to the skillet, breaking it up as it cooks until browned (about 7 minutes). Drain excess grease if necessary.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, cooked rice, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let simmer on low for about 10 minutes.
- In a baking dish, layer half of the meat mixture on the bottom. Top with cabbage leaves followed by the remaining meat mixture. Cover with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 25 minutes.
