Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 500 g ground beef (minced)
- 1 large white onion (finely chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 300 ml beef stock
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- 1 egg (beaten for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F). In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced beef and season with salt and pepper, cooking until browned. Transfer to a bowl.
- In the same skillet, sauté onions until soft, about 5 minutes; add garlic and cook for another minute.
- Stir in flour and cook for one minute. Gradually add beef stock while scraping up browned bits. Return beef to the skillet along with tomato paste and thyme; simmer for about 45 minutes until thickened.
- Transfer filling into a pie dish, cover with rolled puff pastry, seal edges with a fork, and brush with beaten egg.
- Make a small steam hole in the pastry and bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
