  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 500 g ground beef (minced)
  • 1 large white onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 300 ml beef stock
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 1 egg (beaten for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F). In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced beef and season with salt and pepper, cooking until browned. Transfer to a bowl.
  2. In the same skillet, sauté onions until soft, about 5 minutes; add garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Stir in flour and cook for one minute. Gradually add beef stock while scraping up browned bits. Return beef to the skillet along with tomato paste and thyme; simmer for about 45 minutes until thickened.
  4. Transfer filling into a pie dish, cover with rolled puff pastry, seal edges with a fork, and brush with beaten egg.
  5. Make a small steam hole in the pastry and bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
